For as long as I can remember, drawing has helped me form an understanding and connection with the natural world. Since childhood, a sketchbook and a pencil have been my constant companions for making notes and drawings of the living things and dynamic landscapes around me. Drawing from life helps me to be aware and describe the world I see. Much of my current work is derived from observations I have made working as a field biologist. By sketching I pick up on subtleties of behavior and movement that I often miss when just watching. Each of my pieces results from hours working in the field observing my subject. My most recent work is derived from observations I have made while living on the Maine coast.
