About the artist
Matt Barter lives in Brunswick Maine with his wife Rebekah and two boys. Together they updated a carriage house on their property using reclaimed barn boards and turned it into a studio/gallery. In the upstairs Matt Barter paints and sculpts. The downstairs is where he exhibits new works. As a teenager Matt studied with his father, Philip, working in his studio in Sullivan Maine he learned the mechanics of oil painting. He also worked with his father at a young age on various commercial fishing boats, lobster, mussel harvesting etc, which shaped his style and focus on the working harbors of Maine.
