Beth Richey is a new resident to Maine, having lived more recently in the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania. She graduated from Colgate University with a BA in Peace Studies in 1980. After working in outdoor education for a time she pursued painting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts for a year then studied at Tyler School of Art graduating with an MEd. in Art Education. Her painting practice has continued over the years while teaching high school art for 22 years.
My work reflects my interest in the process of painting. Working with the ebb and flow of painting reveals what is ‘known’, ‘observed’, ‘sensed’ and what is slightly out of reach altogether. Each painting is a reminder that resolution is elusive and paint has its say. To observe, reflect and respond to the nature of paint, subject, and self is painting,
