Tyler O'Grady
Tyler O’Grady (b. 1993) was raised in Sedgwick, Maine where he was surrounded by artists, writers and musicians. This creative community nurtured a drive in him to pursue an artistic practice from a young age. While attending Rhode Island School of Design, Tyler found his true love in the medium of paint. He earned a BFA in Painting from RISD in 2016 and has continued his studio practice ever since. Drawing from still life, urban and industrial landscapes, and the long standing tradition of Maine painters, Tyler’s work seeks to re-examine our surroundings and provide a new lens to see the world through.
Tyler currently lives and works in Philadelphia, PA.
Statement
My paintings are informed by my everyday surroundings and subjects. I seek out the mundane and unnoticed details of daily life that demand attention in unexpected ways. I look for subjects that exhibit a temporal yet lively transformative nature upon their convergence with light and shadow. The focal points of my paintings are sometimes found while wandering the undercharted nooks and crannies of my whereabouts but other times present themselves to me unprompted during day-to-day routine. The work insists on serendipitous discovery and a curiosity of an often monotonous daily existence.
